IHM Maintenance Service by OSM Bergen

With the EU Regulative SRR 1257/2013, which was implemented 1st January 2021, all vessels calling a port in the EU must have an IHM-certificate onboard (Inventory of Hazardous Materials).

In addition to the above, IMO Guidelines MEPC. 269 (68) also state that the shipowner is responsible to maintain the IHM-inventory list during the vessels' lifetime.

Ship-owners must implement specific measures to ensure conformity of part I of the inventory (MEPC 5.2). For this reason, most shipowners and management companies have decided to outsource this job to Hazardous Materials companies.

However, OSM Bergen has in-house competence in IHM maintenance, hence can offer the same service as a third-party company, to all existing customers offered Technical Management for their vessels. The difference is that we offer you this service at prices below market rates, which gives you, our existing customer, savings!

What shipowners must do to ensure IHM maintenance compliance

Ship-owners must implement the following measures to ensure conformity of part I of the inventory (MEPC 5.2):

  • Designate a person as responsible for maintaining and updating the inventory
  • The designated person should establish and supervise a system to ensure necessary updating of the inventory in the event of new installation
  • Maintain the inventory including dates of changes or new deleted entries and the signature of the designated person.
  • Provide related documents as required for survey or sale of the ship

The OSM IHM Maintenance Service and Cost

1. Scope
Maintenance and updating of Inventory of hazardous materials (IHM) for vessels according to the requirements for ships of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), as specified in EU Ship recycling regulation No. 1257/2013

2. Description of services
☑️ Receive IHM reports and other required documentation from Customer
☑️ Receive information from the Customer on the historical procurement
☑️ Include all the above information for the Inventory of Hazardous Materials in the OSM IHM database
☑️ Collect information on the procurement of new installations equipment
☑️ Checking that received procurement information comply with EU 1257/2013
☑️ Update IHM-inventory if required, and update Class accordingly
☑️ Provide related documents as required for recycling or sale of the ship

3. Pricing and payments

For the avoidance of doubt, this service is an additional value-added service to the relevant ship management contracts under the existing ship management agreement with OSM. Save for clauses 1, 2 and 3 above, the same terms, conditions and exceptions under the existing ship management agreement apply for the service performed for the relevant vessels.
